My favorite skirt is always a thrifted tube skirt. The tube is hands down my preferred shape – fitted, just below the knee, and high-waisted. If you know me, you know that for it to be considered a fav it has to be second hand. You may not need more convincing, but in case you do…
1. No matter what shape you are, it’s flattering.
If you’re short, it makes you look taller. If you’re tall, it makes you long and slender. If you’re skinny or straight, it gives you a shape. If you’re not so skinny, it makes you look leaner. If you’re pregnant, it emphasizes the bump and distracts from the other not so magical things happening to your body. The scuba-like material of this particular skirt sucks in and smooths out EVERYTHING.
2. You can wear it with anything.
On top you can wear a tee, a nice blouse, a button down, a sweater or even sweatshirt. Down below you can wear stilettos, wedges, flats, booties, slides, or sneakers. Almost anything looks good giving this skirt a ton of versatility – more on that in the next point. On this casual date night I wore it with a tee and sandals, because I had a grand total of 10 minutes to get ready.
3. You can wear it TO anything.
This depends on the styling. Wear it with nice flats and blazer to work. Wear it with a crop top and heels for girls night out. Wear with a button down and wedges to a casual wedding or church. Wear it with a tank and sneakers to brunch. I can even see it with a black bathing suit and slides to a pool party. The possibilities are endless.
4. Buying used is just the BEST.
It’s the best for your wallet, mother nature, and to be honest, I buy way more interesting things when they are second hand. The risk is so low, so why not take a chance on something?
This skirt is made by Milly for Design Nation. Milly is an American fashion brand designed by Michelle Smith. Known for her vibrant colors and print, it is typically sold in higher end shops and boutiques i.e., Neiman Marcus.
Similar to how Target partners with designers to release mini budget friendly collections, Kohl’s sold a mini 50 item collection made by Milly back in 2015. This skirt was part of that release. It was $50 retail, and I picked it up for $7 at Thrift Mart.
If you don’t have a tube skirt yet, I suggest you buy one…preferably from a second hand store. I promise you will not regret it. I always encourage you to hunt for your own second hand finds. If that’s not your style, check out some look-a-likes I found for you below.
