Paris: day four

On our last full day in Paris, we visited Rue Cler, one of Paris’ most beloved market streets. It was a dreary day, but that didn’t hinder our mood. My mother, who is a fantastic cook and lover of food, was giddy over all the amazing products. She kept excitedly shouting things as she saw them – the mushrooms! The salmon! The wines! The chocolates!

After Rue Cler, we took and uber to the Museum of Decorative Arts to check out the The Christian Dior, Couturier Du Reve exhibition. This exhibit marks the label’s 70th anniversary and showcases some 300 of its houte couture dresses. Read more here. It was a 3 hour wait, but we decided that we could not miss this opportunity.

It was like nothing I have ever experienced and one of the highlights of the trip. The exhibit was very comprehensive touching on everything from the legend himself, to all the designers that have contributed to the label, to the creation process, to the famous DIOR prints and models, and the of course THE GOWNS.    ….and that is only a tiny glimpse! It was absolutely intoxicating.

Since we skipped lunch while waiting in line, we decided it was the perfect time eat crepes from a street vendor. And just like that it was our last night in Paris. We decided a rooftop glass of champagne was the best was to kick off the evening, so went to Les Georges at the top of the Pompidou Centre – a public library, modern art museum, and center for music and acoustic research. On our way we walked by a Parisian thrift store. Sadly, I didn’t shop – we had a reservation, but I did stop for a quick pic. Competition looked fierce as stylish women tore through bins of clothing.

At Les Georges we drank 2 glasses of over priced champagne and took in one last gaze at the Eiffel Tower. While beautiful in an industrial chic kind of way, Les Georges felt a bit touristy for me. Though we still enjoyed it.

A little tipsy, we walk to La Petite Marche, a tiny, crowded, and buzzing restaurant for dinner. All the tables were so close they were literally touching. It’s the kind of place where you make friends with everyone you – for us that meant a nice couple to my left and a rowdy group of Parisian men to my right. It was the most unique meal of our trip.

Main course – I ordered tuna which was lightly seared, layered with a crispy rice sheets, swimming in a savory and sweet sauce. Mom ordered the seared steak and green beens. Also, good, but we decided the tuna was the star.

Dessert – We ordered a baked mango dish recommended by our server. When it arrived at our table, the Parisian guy at the table exclaimed ‘that is so fucking good!’ – He was right.  That’s a wrap for our mother-daughter trip to the city of lights! If you missed it, read about days one, two, and three here.

I always encourage you to hunt for your own finds. If that’s not your style, here are some look-a-likes that I found just for you!
