My husband and I are OFFICIALLY Alabamians again! After a very long search during which we lived with my parents at what is known as ‘The Family Compound’, we found our new home. It took longer than we expected (5 months!), but we finally pulled the trigger on this beauty.
Built in the mid 80s, she has the feel of a historic home with tons of character, but thankfully none of the ghosts that come with a home built in 1903. By ghosts I mean knob and tube electrical, old plumbing, etc. We hope that we left all those types of headaches in our vintage Chicago condo.
She’s pretty grand at the moment, but she definitely needs some updating. She may be inspired by the early 1900s, but her fixtures and layout scream late 80s / early 90s. This doesn’t scare me. In fact, it’s what my husband and I want. We’ve saved up and mentally prepared ourselves for a fixer. It’s going to be our largest project to date (this home is over four thousand square feet, has five bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms!!!), and like most things, we’re gonna figure it out as we go.
We closed on the last day of September (whilst wearing my thrifted H&M jumper, obvi!), and immediately went over to admire our new digs. Day one was was a little rocky (watch the vid), but I guess it can only go up from here. Stay tuned for what is sure to be an interesting ride!
