mars attacks!

If I had to describe myself these days, I would probably be a planet. I’m a little over 2 weeks from my due date, and I’ll be shocked if I make it through the week without adding another member to my lil family. However, that’s not gonna stop me from wearing my fav items and sharing them with you!

Today I’m feeling inspired to talk about versatility. We tend to categorize our clothing so much that we pigeon hole it. We wear them one way, and one way only. To make the most our of your wardrobe, you should be able to wear everything at least a couple of different ways. This adds longevity to your clothes.

Let’s take a plain red fitted dress. I thrifted this one last November for $10. It’s ZARA and was new with tags (yea!) Now, some might look at this dress see just a cocktail dress. However, there are so many other options! Below are seven, but I’m sure there are so many more…

CASUAL LOOKS

Bring this dress down to the everyday with sneakers and frayed denim vest. This is a great Spring / Summer look – throw on some fun sunnies and you’re ready for a festival, farmer’s market, or brunch.

The next look keeps it casual, but switches seasons. I layered a chambray button down with a leather jacket and short boots. This is a transitional look great for changing seasons when the temperatures can vary greatly. You could throw on tights or socks and a hat for added warmth.

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD LOOKS

To elevate this dress just a tad for a work appropriate look, I added a tailored grey blazer, ballet flats, and my black work tote. I’m ready to go be a #girlboss.

For a date night throw on a classic trench, printed flats, and a simple cross body. Wearing flats keeps this look grounded – literally. Just be careful with red and leopard, because it can look cheap really quickly. Keep your jewelry, make up, and hair clean and simple, and you should be just fine.

For a girls night, I added a denim jacket and tall brown leather boots. This look is very Fall to me and has a bit of a country flare to it.

FANCY PANTS LOOKS

My first fancy look is probably my favorite out of all the looks. It’s perfect for a Summer wedding. I added natural elements with this wood necklace and natural tone wedges. The turquoise clutch is a fun pop of color.

The last look today is the most dressy – perfect for a holiday party or NYE. I added a velvet choker and patent leather peep toe heels. I usually try to stay away from red and black outfits, because it can be pretty harsh looking. For super fancy occasions, it works.

And there you have it…one dress, seven ways that spans every season! I hope this inspires you to try some different looks with your favorite dresses. Happy Monday!

And if second hand isn’t your thing…
