indian wedding PARTY

I attended my very first Indian wedding last weekend and it was an EXPERIENCE. It was a lavish celebration rich with tradition and celebration. In my next life, I am marrying an Indian….or maybe I’ll be Indian. As per the usual, I picked my outfits with care from my carefully curated and thrifted closet.

Frimg_3333iday was kind of a bust – we arrived late. However, I wore head to toe thrift to travel: grey maxi skirt, pepe le pew tee (or as I call it my wedding tee), denim jacket, and oversized fringe purse perfect for stowing all my snacks.

Saturday started early (10am!), but the lively celebration woke me right up. Sadly I couldn’t find a sari to fit over my growing bump, so I opted for a color block trapeze dress and glittery scarf. I pumped up the fun with a colorful necklace and bright gold lace up flats which were key as we danced (literally) down a golf course to pick up the bride. Total cost: $8. NO JOKE. I purchased the flats from Banana Republic using a gift card. The necklace was a THS donation from a friend. The dress set me back a whopping $6, and the scarf was $2! I could tell you that this was a the cheapest outfit I ever wore, but that would be a lie 🙂

Saturday evening was black tie optional, so we did an outfit change and got SUPER fancy. I wore a full length velvet gown. It was def made in the 90s with the weirdest boob pads that I cut out immediately using the worst sewing kit scissors known to man. The dress isn’t maternity, but the material is very stretchy and actually quite comfortable. I paired it with a newly thrifted pair of Sam Edelman strappy heels. I also carried a vintage 40s style clutch. The necklace was my only non thrifted item, but I wore it anyway. Total cost: $38. We had so much fun, that I didn’t get any great pics of our outfits, but here’s a couple that capture the spirit of the event!

I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it again. Event wear is sooo easy to thrift! More often than not, an event dress is one and done. Until I get my hands on it of course.
