In honor of #takemeback Tuesday, I’m sharing pics and from my beach trip to Gulf Shores last week. Gulf Shores is Alabama’s teeny section of the gulf that we managed to save from Florida. While packing my bags, I decided to challenge myself to dress us in ONLY secondhand items. Why? Because I think this sort of thing is fun, and the less money I spend on clothing, the more money I have to go places….like the beach 🙂
We left bright and early at 5:30am in our comfiest thrifted threads. Flying with a toddler requires me to be very comfortable and agile, so I wore my Lululemon black leggings ($6….yep you read that right), Zara striped tunic top ($3), Old Navy denim jacket ($7), and light weight aqua scarf ($2). Maxwell rocked his Osh Kosh striped hooded shirt ($1.50), Carter acid wash skinnies ($3), and grey slip ons ($3). Total cost of our travel outfits? $25.50.
After a 2 hour flight, we arrived in Pensacola and drove over to Gulf Shores. For those of you who don’t think much of Alabama beaches, feast your eyes on this view! One thing I didn’t know, and quite enjoyed, is that this stretch of shore is private i.e beach cabanas all day long.
Once we settled into our condo, the sun worshiping began. I sported my Target suit (thrifted, but NWT for $6) and used my teal scarf as a cover up. I found this adorable palm tree SPF 50 swim shirt for Maxwell ($1.50) which he wore with his non-thrifted Target swim trunks ($10), and grey seersucker hat ($2). Total cost for beach day threads under $20.
Vacation is not complete without lots of lounging and to do this appropriate lounge wear is imperative. The thrift store is teeming with broken in items perfect for doing nothing at all. Here’s Maxwell in his Thailand bro tank (gifted – thanks Auntie Helen!), blue stripe shorts ($2.50).I packed the softest baseball pjs for Maxwell ($1), and an equally soft Lush grey maxi skirt for me ($4), Target muscle tank ($6), and Victoria’s Secret sport suit top ($1) for me. Proof that there’s almost no restrictions to what I will thrift.
Finally, let us not forget outfits for beach nights when we let our crispy skin cool off, stuff ourselves with the freshest of seafood, and enjoy a sunset on the beach. I prefer loose clothing that is cute but still lounge worthy. These are my favorite new to me Gap army green peg pants ($12 – I know double digits for a thrifted item is cray, but I love them that much) and grey tank ($1). Maxwell is in a gifted tee and Carters plaid shorts ($1.50). Total comes to $14.50.
I hope when my little guy grows up, he embraces my philosophies and doesn’t get super mad at me for making him wear what some people consider garbage. Instead, I hope he focuses on how fly I dressed him, and more importantly all the fun things we did. Time to plan our next adventure!
