I feel like Kate Hudson in Almost Famous, so much so that I have a strong urge to run around topless in it. If you haven’t seen this movie, stop reading this and go watch it. My favorite scene isn’t when they all sing Tiny Dancer on the tour bus (which is amazing), but when Kate aka Penny Lane drunkenly runs around a hotel room in something very similar wearing much less underneath. She’s the ultimate groupie, or bandaid, as she calls herself. In this coat I feel like the ultimate flower child, but I’ll keep my clothes on for now.
Like most of my great finds, I found it off season when the coat section is both ignored and overflowing. I admit, it’s kind of hard to get excited about a full length suede coat when it’s 85 degrees outside and 90 degrees in the thrift shop. Oh the smells! However, the best time to buy coats, or anything, is off season. After a through cleaning, I stowed her away for cooler days.
Finally those cooler days are here, and so are some seriously 70s inspired trends thanks to a handful of Fall 2015 NYFW shows including Rebecca Minkoff and BCBG Max Azria. It’s the perfect time to rock out in this baby. Any guesses on brand???
I paired it with my new (yes, sometimes I go to real stores) H&M jumpsuit which I scored for $7 on clearance. Helen scored the wooden necklace at an estate sale for free.99! The entire look set me back $27…well minus the shoes and sunnies. Yes, that means this coat was 20 bucks. I guess I should give up the brand now…Wilson Leather.
