summer wedding in the cape

Being  33 and living in the big and wonderful city of Chicago, I am still very much riding the wedding train. It’s slowing down a bit, but still moving. I obviously want to look my best for each and every one, and I never wear the same dress to multiple highly photographed events. I don’t want my pictures from an entire season to look like one really really long party. I actually don’t really like wearing any outfit, formal or not, more than once. I realize this is slightly insane, but it’s true.

The only way to never wear the same outfit once without being Beyonce, Britney, or just really rich, is thrifting AND being creative when you put an outfit together. I’m basically always hunting for great event wear which is fun for me and super fun for my bank account.

My favorite thrifted wedding outfit was for a wedding in Cape Cod last summer. The bride of this wedding works in fashion (real Versace fashion, not Goodwill fashion), so you know I wanted to look especially good.

This pink and red color block dress is by a total no name brand, but I don’t care. I love it’s vibrant color, the modest high-low hemline, and the wide tie straps. It’s bright without being too flashy. Sexy without being too risqué. And most important, expensive looking without being, well, expensive. A couple girls even asked me if it was Tibi. No, I didn’t go to Nordstrom and spend $500. I went to my local Salvation Army and spent $6. In it I felt so chic and airy which was especially key because I was trying to hide a first trimester bump;)
